The Best Reveals From The 2023 Xbox Games Showcase

Microsoft held its 2023 Xbox Game Showcase this week where the publisher unveiled gameplay from previously-announced titles, announced launch dates for upcoming games, and revealed several brand-new games that are in the works. If you missed the event, we’ve rounded up what we think are some of the best reveals from the Xbox Games Showcase.

Starfield Release Date And Gameplay

One of the biggest reveals as part of the Showcase was an official launch date for Starfield, Bethesda’s next big RPG set in space. The trailer offered a closer look at some gameplay as well as a hint of what to expect story-wise from the upcoming game. After the Xbox Games Showcase, Bethesda held its Starfield Direct, a 45-minute Showcase that provided an in-depth look at the title’s gameplay and more.

Cities: Skylines II

Cities: Skylines II was announced by Paradox Interactive in March 2023, and the publisher along with developer Colossal Order made an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase, unveiling some fresh gameplay of the sequel – improved road construction and zoning were both shown – while confirming an official release date of October 2023.

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty Expansion Launch Date

Almost three years after the launch of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red have finally unveiled gameplay and details of the upcoming Phantom Liberty expansion for sci-fi RPG. Check out some gameplay, as well as story beats involving V, Johnny Silverhand, and Idris Elba’s Solomon Reed. The trailer also confirmed an end-of-September launch date.

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 Trailer

Hellblade 2, a sequel to Ninja Theory’s 2018 Hellblade was announced back in 2019 for PC and Xbox Series consoles. A brand-new trailer made an appearance at the Xbox Games Showcase, although no official date was revealed.

Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024

One of the biggest surprises of the event was Asobo Studio announcing Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, a sequel to the 2020 reboot that includes a slew of new flight-based activities, including search and rescue, air racing, aerial firefighting, cargo transport, and plenty of additional mission-based gameplay too. Alongside showcasing gameplay, the studio confirmed a 2024 launch window for PC and Xbox consoles.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Dune Expansion

Asobo Studio also confirmed the launch of a Dune expansion coming in November 2023 for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, which will include a pilotable House Atreides Ornithopter, as well as the opportunity to fly over the sandy Arrakis. The DLC will launch for free alongside Dune: Part Two in theatres.

Avowed Gameplay Trailer

Obsidian unveiled brand-new gameplay of its upcoming RPG Avowed. The gameplay included a look at the game’s expansive and colourful open-world. The trailer also confirmed a 2024 release window for the game on PC via Steam and Xbox consoles.

Star Wars Outlaws Announcement Trailer

Ubisoft announced its upcoming Star Wars open-world game Star Wars Outlaws, offering a look at the game’s story, which follows Kas Vess as she embarks on a quest for freedom with companion Nix. A gameplay reveal has been confirmed for the 2023 Ubisoft Forward, and a release window of 2024 was confirmed for PC and Xbox and PlayStation consoles.

Fable Trailer

Microsoft also included a brand-new trailer for Fable at the event, which included a few gameplay snippets as well as a look at comedian Richard Ayoade in the game as a giant. Developer Playground Games did not confirm a release date.
