Sony Confirms PS5 Launch As Online Only, Shares Set-Up Video Guides For Launch Day
It’s been another busy day for Sony as it’s confirmed that its PS5 launch will be online only and has shared three set-up video guides for launch day which show off more of the PS5’s UI.
Demand for the upcoming PS5 consoles has been overwhelmingly high, selling out in various countries including Japan, and with so many people having missed out on ordering a next-gen console, many fans were hoping to grab a console at local stores on launch day.
Unfortunately, Sony today (November 5th) shared a launch day update on the official PlayStation Blog confirming that all purchases of the console will be restricted to online only amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
In the PlayStation blog, Sony Interactive Entertainment Communications Senior Director Sid Shuman said: “The launch of the PlayStation 5 console on November 12 (or November 19, depending on your region) is almost upon us!
“In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners,” he said before confirming that no units will be available in-store on launch day regardless of region.
After urging fans to avoid camping out or lining up outside retail stores, Shuman urged fans to “be safe, stay home, and place your order online.”
Shuman then confirmed that anyone who has pre-ordered for pick up at retail shops should still be able to do so by arranging appointment times, but urged users to confirm details with their retailers.
He ended the blog post saying: “A special thank you to our entire community for your continued support this year. Here’s to the next generation of gaming!”
PlayStation 5 will release November 12th in the United States, Mexico, Japan, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand, and on November 19th for the rest of the world including Europe and the UK.
PS5 Launch Day Set-Up Video Guides
With only two weeks to go until the UK release and one week left for most countries, Sony has shared a series of video guides informing players how they can use their account on the PS5, adjust settings, and transfer files from PS4 consoles to PS5.
First up, the account video explains how to set up an internet connection on your PS5, how to sign in to your PlayStation account with the option to sign in through the PlayStation app with a QR code, and how to change your PlayStation online ID directly from the new console. Watch it below:
The second video guides viewers on how to adjust the settings of their console to maximise their PlayStation experience. The video covers how to access the settings menu and what players can adjust including sound, haptic feedback and adaptive trigger sensitivity, the management of automatic updates and save data, as well as power-saving options. Check out the video below:
The final video explains how you can transfer saves and backwards compatible games from a PS4 console to a PS5 console. The video explains how users can transfer data over the internet via an ethernet cable or Wi-Fi. It also explains how PS4 titles can be moved onto PS5 either by inserting PS4 discs and connecting an external hard drive with PS4 games on it or downloading them directly from the PlayStation Store.
It then explains how players can transfer save data, either by downloading saves from their cloud storage as a PS Plus subscriber or transferring saves through a USB stick. You can watch the guide below:
