PlayStation announces PS5 Pro, reveals launch date and pricing
Sony unveiled the PS5 Pro console today (September 10th) via a presentation with Mark Cerny, the lead architect of the PS5 console, and it’s sparked an uproar online over its price.
The technical presentation confirmed that the mid-gen refresh will launch in November and will include an upgraded GPU for up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, advanced ray tracing, and AI-driven upscaling that provides sharper images.
Footage of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Demon’s Souls, Horizon Forbidden West, and more were featured, showing what the new console is capable of.
Later on, games like The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendent, Hogwarts Legacy, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Dragon’s Dogma 2, and others were confirmed to get PS5 Pro patches.
At the end of the nine-minute presentation, Sony revealed the price of the console:
- £699.99
- €799.99
- $699.99 USD
- ¥119,980 JPY
Like the base PS5, the Pro console will come with a DualSense wireless controller, Astro’s Playroom pre-installed, and, as an added upgrade, a 2TB SSD.
However, the Pro console is digitally online and comes without a stand, meaning you’ll have to pay more if you’re looking to play physical games or want the stand (£24.99/€29.99/$29.99 USD for the stand and £99.99/€119.99/$79.99 USD for the disc drive).
The price has been a huge point of discussion for gamers online, with some taking to X (Formerly Twitter) to vent their frustration at the high price, while others expressed excitement for the new console.
