Dredge Film Adaptation

Dredge, a Lovecraftian horror fishing sim and one of my favourite indie games of 2023, is getting a live-action film adaptation.

Announced by Variety earlier this week (April 9th), developer Black Salt Games has partnered with production company Story Kitchen to create the film.

The upcoming Dredge film is the studio’s latest project, coming after Story Kitchen’s announcement of a Vampire Survivors animated TV series and a Slime Rancher film adaptation, as well as its involvement with the Tomb Raider: The Legend Of Lara Croft Netflix show, Sonic The Hedgehog 3, and more.

Dredge follows a fisherman as he explores the sea around a collection of islands, meets their inhabitants, collects an abundance of fish, and learns about each island’s strange past and secrets, all while surviving the Eldritch horrors that haunt the sea at night.

“We are excited to partner with such an experienced studio team to bring the world we created to live action and ignite the imagination of audiences across the globe,” Black Salt Games said in a statement.

“‘Dredge‘ is a captivatingly eerie and profoundly rich story that had us completely hooked from the very beginning,” Story Kitchen added.

Dredge was nominated for several awards at The Game Awards 2023, Golden Joystick Awards, Steam Awards, the 2024 Game BAFTAs, and the Annual D.I.C.E. Awards. It won the Best Indie Game accolade at the IGN Awards 2023.
