No Free PS5 Upgrade For Marvel’s Spider-Man, Sony Confirms

Spider-Man

Sony has confirmed that there will be no free PS5 upgrade for players who own Marvel’s Spider-Man on the PS4.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is set to release alongside the new PlayStation 5 console this November in two versions; the base game and a £20 more expensive Ultimate Edition which includes the base game and a digital code for a PS5 remastered version of 2018’s Spider-Man.

Unfortunately, Sony has confirmed in a statement to Kotaku that the PS5 remaster of Marvel’s Spider-Man can only be bought as part of the Ultimate Edition package. There will be no free upgrade to users who already own a copy of PS4 Marvel’s Spider-Man and players cannot purchase the PS5 remaster of Marvel’s Spider-Man separately.

However, players who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on the PS4 will be able to upgrade to a PS5 version for free and then purchase an upgrade to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.

The statement, provided to Kotaku, reads: “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of Marvel’s Spider-Man, and is included as part of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition for the PlayStation 5.

“In addition, players who purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can upgrade at no additional cost to the PS5 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to download Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered.

The statement continues: “There are no plans currently to offer Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone. Players with a copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 can purchase Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered on PS5. Marvel’s Spider-Man for PS4 also will be backwards compatible on PS5.”

The statement confirms that players who purchase a PS4 copy of Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales can upgrade to the PS5 version for free and then purchase a £20 upgrade for the PS5 remaster of Marvel’s Spider-Man.

It’s also worth noting that the original PS4 version of Marvel’s Spider-Man will run on the PlayStation 5 but will not include any upgrades. Insomniac Games have confirmed that the PS5 remastered Spider-Man will include DualSense haptic feedback, new animations, ray tracing, ambient shadows, improved character models and facial animations, more pedestrians and vehicles, as well as a “next-generation Peter Parker”.

The remaster will also include near-instant loading, new photo mode features, an optional new performance mode to target 60 frames-per-second, new suits, and new trophies to unlock.

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Remastered, and the PlayStation 5 console launch November 19th in the UK.
