Developer Black Salt Games has announced that its critically acclaimed Dredge, and one of my favourite recent indie titles, is launching on mobile and MacOS at the end of the year.

The game, which sees you explore an archipelago in search of ancient relics and mutated fish to uncover a dark mystery, launched in 2023 for PC and consoles and received two DLCs: The Pale Reach and the larger The Iron Rig expansion.

Dredge will launch for MacOS, iOS, and Android devices via the App and Google Play stores on December 18th. The game has been completely optimised for mobile, featuring touch controls and controller support for a “seamless mobile experience”.

Pre-orders are available now on the Apple App Store and users on Google Play can pre-register in the coming weeks. Anyone who pre-orders or pre-registers can enjoy a custom starting rod exclusive to each platform.

Apple users on iOS and MacOS can also enjoy a “Try Before You Buy” feature, giving you a chance to explore the game’s first area for free before purchasing the game.

Black Salt Games has confirmed that Dredge on mobile and iOS will offer customisable visual settings, including reflections, automatic adaptive performance to balance battery life, and gameplay quality.

The studio has also confirmed that the game will run on Apple Silicon devices for MacOS users and will support cross-saves between MacOS and iOS devices.

Nadia Thorne, Black Salt Games CEO and Dredge Producer, said: “We’re often told by our players how perfect a game Dredge is on-the-go via Nintendo Switch or Steam Deck, so bringing it to iOS and Android feels like a very natural step – as many of our players have also pointed out to us!

“We’ve spent some time optimising the experience for mobile screens and touch inputs and it plays really nicely on the small or square screens of phones and tablets.”

Dredge will launch on mobile, tablets, and MacOS on December 18th. The expansions will be available as in-app purchases.
