Cities: Skylines 2 Maps Are Five Times Bigger Than The Original Game

Colossal Order has released its new Feature Highlight video, with this three-and-a-half-minute video focusing on the maps and themes of Cities: Skylines 2.

The new video revealed that the maps in Cities: Skylines 2 are five times bigger than the original game, equivalent to around 159 square kilometres, which Colossal Order touts as being larger than some countries.

Like the original game, maps are composed of individual tiles, which you can purchase as you please to create a sprawling city or several pockets of life around the larger map.

You’ll have nine to start with and a maximum of 441 tiles to unlock on each map. Again, like the original game, reaching certain milestones will unlock additional tiles, and you can preview details about each title like the total buildable area before buying them.

The video also covers how you can freely create connections to cities beyond the edge of your map to establish trade routes. A total of ten maps are available with the base game, plus two additional maps made available with the Ultimate Edition of the game.

Starting a new game and selecting maps will allow you to adjust the theme – European or North American – and check the total buildable area, latitude, climate, and natural resources before playing.

This week’s Feature Highlight comes after Colossal Order offered glimpses into the game’s water and electricitycity serviceszoningpublic transportationtraffic AI, and road construction.

Next week’s dev video should offer a closer look at seasons and climates.

Cities: Skylines 2 launches on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series consoles on October 24th.
