PlayStation Acquires New Game Developer Haven Studios
PlayStation Studios has announced that it’s acquired new game developer Haven Studios.
Haven Studios was founded last year by Assassin’s Creed co-creator Jade Raymond after her departure from Google Stadia. The Montreal-based studio received funding from Sony last year via a partnership with the tech giant and began working on an exclusive multiplayer title.
The announcement was shared on Twitter and then detailed in a PlayStation Blog post yesterday (March 21st) by Head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst, who welcomed the studio to the PlayStation family and noted how they were impressed by Haven’s vision for creating a “modern multiplayer experience that brings gamers together in positive and meaningful ways.”
In a statement issued to Gamesindustry.biz, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan said of the news: “Haven Studios is an emerging studio with an exceptional team of talent, and we’re delighted to welcome them into PlayStation as our first game development studio in Canada.
“The studio’s focus on creating an original AAA multiplayer game will not only flex the power of PlayStation 5 but will further expand upon the diverse catalogue of gaming experiences that can only be found on PlayStation.”
The studio currently has over 60 employees but hasn’t released a game. Details on what Haven Studios is developing are scarce, but we do know that their multiplayer title will be a “live service experience built upon a systemic and evolving world”.
