Our 10 Most Anticipated Games Of 2022
The brand new year has finally arrived and with it excitement for a slew of big and small games. To celebrate the start of 2022, we thought we’d compile a list of our 10 most anticipated games of the new year in no particular order.
Horizon: Forbidden West
Horizon Forbidden West is an action RPG and sequel to 2017’s Horizon: Zero Dawn. The game continues Aloy’s journey as she ventures to the Forbidden West to uncover the source of a mysterious plague that has been killing everything it infects. Along the way, Aloy must face deadly new machines and factions, and survive hostile regions ravaged by storms.
Gameplay remains similar to its 2017 predecessor; Horizon Forbidden West is set in an open world that expands across Utah, Nevada, and California. Aloy will need to explore various biomes, including snowy mountains, deserts, tropical beaches and jungles, valleys, and ruined cities on her journey, all of which include several famous locations such as Yosemite Valley and the Golden Gate Bridge. Horizon Forbidden West builds upon the first game’s gameplay with an improved melee combat system, an expanded traversal system, and new tools too.
Horizon Forbidden West will release on February 18th, 2022, for PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles. While you’re waiting for the game to launch, here’s our guide to everything we know about Horizon Forbidden West.
Starfield
Starfield is Bethesda Game Studios’ next big RPG. The game, which was officially announced at Bethesda’s 2018 E3 Press Conference, marks the first new franchise from Bethesda in more than 20 years. It’s set in an area called The Settled Systems in the year 2310, around 20 years after the Colony War, where factions the United Colonies and Freestar Collective have declared peace.
Not much is known about the game’s overarching story, but players will take on the role of a fully customisable character that is a member of the space explorer organisation Constellation. The game has been described as “Skyrim in space” and, according to Bethesda, the game will take players on a journey through space to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.
Starfield will release for PC and Xbox Series consoles on November 11th, 2022. It will launch on day one with Xbox Game Pass.
Hogwarts Legacy
Hogwarts Legacy is another open-world RPG set to launch in 2022. The game is set within the Wizard World of Harry Potter franchise and was announced at Sony’s PlayStation 5 Showcase back in September 2020. Players will take on the role of a customisable Hogwarts student in the late 1800s that holds the key to an ancient secret that threatens to tear the Wizarding world apart.
According to Avalanche Software, the player’s character will be sorted into a house, discover fantastic beasts, craft potions, master spell casting, upgrade skills, and attend classes at Hogwarts while exploring the castle and its surrounding grounds. Along the journey, players will make allies, battle Dark wizards, and decide the fate of the Wizarding world.
Hogwarts Legacy will release in 2022 for PC and all Xbox and PlayStation consoles. While you’re waiting to hear more about the game, check out everything we know so far about Hogwarts Legacy.
The Legend Of Zelda: Breath of The Wild Sequel
The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild was released back in 2017 by Nintendo and remains one of the most popular open-world games around. The unnamed sequel was announced in 2019 at Nintendo’s E3 Direct, and a 2021 Direct featured a new trailer that unveiled details on the sequel’s story, gameplay, and confirmed a 2022 release date.
Details on the sequel are scarce, but trailers have shown exploration of Hyrule’s skies, a returning Ganon, and returning Malice from the original Breath Of The Wild. The trailer has also featured various locations to explore, new and returning enemies, new magical abilities, and a look at Hyrule Castle rumbling and drifting into the sky.
The Legend Of Zelda Breath Of The Wild sequel will release in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch.
God Of War Ragnarök
God Of War Ragnarök is the sequel to Santa Monica Studio’s 2018 hit God Of War, which rebooted the entire franchise with a focus on Norse mythology. The game will act as the finale to the Norse era of the franchise and is set three years after the events of the original game where Fimbulwinter draws to a close. The game follows God Of War Kratos and teenage son Atreus as the two figure out a way to prevent Ragnarök while uncovering the truth about his identity as Loki.
The pair search for Norse God of War giant Týr across the nine realms and must face new threats and take on Thor and former friend Freya after the deaths of their sons by Kratos. Not much is known about God Of War Ragnarök’s gameplay, but the game will likely utilise the same gameplay as the original 2018 game while simultaneously expanding on it.
God Of War Ragnarök will release in 2022 for PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles.
Elden Ring
Elden Ring is an action RPG by FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment. Created by Hidetaka Miyazaki and novelist George R. R. Players take on the role of a customisable Tarnished – exiles from the Lands Between – that has been summoned back to find all Great Runes and restore the Elden Ring and become the Elden Lord.
The gameplay of Elden Ring features elements from all previous Souls games as well as Bloodborne and FromSoftware’s latest release Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Gameplay consists of melee and ranged combat as well as exploration of Elden Ring’s open world, which consists of six main areas, as well as castles, catacombs, and more. There are dozens of challenging bosses to take on, NPCs to meet, and plenty more to enjoy.
Elden Ring will release on February 25th, 2022, for PC and all PlayStation and Xbox consoles. In the meantime, here’s everything we know about Elden Ring.
Gotham Knights
Gotham Knights is an action game by WB Games Montréal that is based on Batman and his supporting cast of characters. The game takes place in Gotham after the death of Batman and sees Nightwing, Red Hood, Batgirl, and Robin work together to restore safety to Gotham, investigate Batman’s death, and come face to face with the dangerous, secret criminal society known as the Court of Owls.
Announced back in August 2020, the game features an open world Gotham City and players can take on the role of any of the game’s four playable characters, each of which has unique skills and playstyles. Players must level up and upgrade characters and explore the city either solo or via the game’s two-player co-op multiplayer mode.
Gotham Knights will release in 2022 for PC and all PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
Stray
Stray is an adventure game that follows a stray cat who embarks on a journey to return home in a world populated by mysterious robots. Players take on the role of the cat and must solve puzzles and take on deadly enemies known as Zurks. Stray features open world elements, but its main focus will be on atmosphere, art, and exploration.
The game will involve stealthy gameplay and players will be given numerous opportunities to interact with the environment in playful ways, befriend small flying drone B12, and annoy the cybercity’s various inhabitants.
Stray will release in early 2022 for PC and all PlayStation consoles.
A Plague Tale: Requiem
A Plague Tale: Requiem is a sequel to Asobo Studio’s 2019 release A Plague Tale: Innocence. The sequel takes place several years after the original game, as Amicia and Hugo escape to the far south where they attempt to start a new life and control Hugo’s curse. When Hugo’s powers reawaken leading to death and destruction, the pair flee to a prophesized island that may hold the key to saving Hugo.
The game will feature much of the same combat and gameplay as the original game where players must use a variety of tools to sneak, fight or unleash hell and rats on enemies. According to Asobo Studio, the sequel will include a spectacular grounded tale “twisted by supernatural forces” as well as stunning visuals with an enthralling score.
A Plague Tale: Requiem will release in 2022 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series consoles. A cloud-based version will also release for the Nintendo Switch.
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League
Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League is an action-adventure game by Rocksteady Studios that serves as a continuation of the Batman: Arkham series. Rather than following Batman, the game follows the Suicide Squad as they attempt to defeat Brainiac after he invades Earth and brainwashes the Justice League.
The game is set in an open world Metropolis and players control any of the four playable characters; Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot, and Captain Boomerang as they attempt to assassinate the Justice League and save the world.
