New Cities: Skylines 2 Video Showcases Traffic AI And Road Accidents
Colossal Order has released its second feature highlight video for Cities: Skylines 2, this time focusing on traffic AI.
In the video, Colossal Order reveal that Cites: Skylines 2’s traffic AI is based on the game’s pathfinding mechanic, which looks at four main factors for citizens to decide how they move through your city.
The factors – referred to as pathfinding costs – include time as citizens want the quickest route, comfort as citizens want an easy route, the availability and cost of parking and fuel, and behaviour.
Citizens’ decisions will also be impacted by traffic accidents that can occur when drivers lose control of their vehicles.
The video confirmed that wet roads, extreme weather events, and the time of day are all factors that increase the risk of an accident, with a road maintenance crew available to patch things up.
Colossal Order stated that traffic AI has improved so much that you’re able to “grow a larger population” before showcasing how you can monitor traffic via two infoviews.
The new video is the second of Colossal Order’s weekly Feature Highlight series, where new videos offering a deeper dive into game features are released every Monday. Last week, the studio explored road construction.
Cities: Skylines 2 launches on October 24, 2023, for PC and PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
