How To Get Waterwing Override

The Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC introduces several new machines, including the Waterwing, which you can use as a mount in the air, on land, and in water once you’ve unlocked the machine override. You can find out how to get the Waterwing override in the Burning Shores DLC with our guide right here.

Unlocking The Waterwing Override

To get the Waterwing override in the Burning Shores DLC, you’ll need to progress the main story of the expansion to the For His Amusement mission, where Aloy, with help from Seyka, work together to create a Waterwing override.

At the start of the mission, Sekya leaves in search of Waterwing machines, while Aloy contacts Beta who informs her that an override can be created by modifying a Sunwing override. To do this, Aloy needs to gather two Waterwing parts; a Ballast Regulator and Wing Membrane, both of which can be found in the ocean from machine remains.

From the beach where Aloy meets Seyka, guide Aloy to the ocean just south of Fleet’s End, where you’ll need to dive into the water and swim to the ocean floor, all while stealthily hiding from Snapmaws using kelp.

The Waterwing parts aren’t far from each other, and you can either collect them entirely using stealth or you can use the nearby Quen ballistae to defeat the Snapmaws and make things a little easier.

Once you’ve collected the Waterwing parts, you’ll need to speak with Beta and then craft the override at a nearby workbench – Fleet’s End isn’t far, so you can head there manually or simply fast-travel. Once crafted, you’ll need to meet with Seyka on a beach where she’s found some Waterwing machines.

Head to her location via fast travel or flight and then stealthily approach one of the several Waterwings to override them. The mission should then continue with a cutscene before allowing you to control the Waterwing in and out of water.

That’s it! Now you know how to get the Waterwing override in the Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores DLC. Have fun with the new mount and exploring Los Angeles!
